Witches cauldron

Hummmmm.....this was supposed to be a glossy food magazine type photo of the home made spaghetti blognase I lovingly spent all morning preparing . However I think it looks more like a witches cauldron complete with worms and snails .....

Tasted good though!

We have had a very lazy day today....all of us feeling idle and unmotivated!

Guinea pigs enjoyed the sunshine in the garden and Bob the hamster came out to play for a while too.
We are looking forward to some more energy tomorrow perhaps.....

job application

Just to mention - I am trying to fill in a job application for a teaching assistant job at Handcross..... any help very welcome!

Out to lunch

Today whilist Dave is suffering with his cold and waiting for a washing machine delivery.Alfie and I drove down to Shoreham to see Mum and Dad.

It was a lovely sunny day and we went over to the river and Alfie enjoyed playing in the park. Then we went for lunch at a near by pub which was very nice.

Alfie then spent most of the afternoon riding his bike up and down outside on the road. Something he cannot do here at home.

Back home now- with stacks of washing to wash and dry and iron!

Sunday

Well, I certainly opened up that subject yesterday!

Today Dave and I are still suffering with our head colds and feel generally grot.

Alfie however is firing on all cylinders and not sympathetic at all! He has been in the garden as its been so lovely and made a miniture garden and Dave spoilt him by playing Mousetrap with him.....groan.

Lets hope things improve tomorrow

Bonfire at Barnham

Today we have been to Barnham to visit Dave's Mother.

Alfie and Dave had a large bonfire in the garden to get rid of the garden rubbish left by the gardener. I was not very popular because I mentioned the greenhouse effect and how it was not very neighbourly to have a bonfire on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in spring when people might be enjoying their gardens or hanging out washing! Oh dear.....

PS None of my photos at the moment as I need new batteries for my camera.

Whoops!

Kathryn says she is doing an MA not an MB !!

Sorry!

My friend Kathryn...

I thought I would post this lovely short story written by my good friend Kathryn Harriss.

Kathryn is doing an MB in Creative Writing at Sussex University and has her own blog where she posts a daily short story . Give it a look and let her know what you think!

Lay your head on my shoulder
Lay your head on my shoulder and we’ll drift downstream and let the waves lap over our bellies and our toes tinkle in the ripples. Let the lily pads bump against our heads as we glide like soft bullets through the water and stroke the frogs gaping at the passing spectacle. Don’t worry about your lack of clothes, the water voles will weave us skirts from the rushes plucked from the banks to cover your modesty and they will be fastened with berries. To lull you to sleep the dragon flies will swirl around our heads and sing soft songs of trees whispering secrets to the grass.

Lay your head on my shoulder and we’ll follow the meandering river smoothly slipping snake-like and we’ll steer our course by thought alone. Let the pond weed tickle your soles as they dangle into the water enticing a trail of minnows to follow in our warm wake. Don’t worry about what they will think, their memories aren’t that good and they’ll keep following until we reach the end of the tide. To keep you warm the sun will throw its beams on your bare skin and turn droplets of water into brilliant jewels and you can give these to your new friends.
Lay your head on my shoulder and as we float lightly along the flow we’ll blow bubbles with reeds and watch them pop on the surface. Let the rainbow you see overhead be captured by a fairy and brought to your chest for you to clutch tightly. Don’t worry that this will be the last rainbow you see, it won’t. The sky will be full of rainbows and ripples hanging there just for you. That’s the sort of place you’re going to.

Lay your head on my shoulder one more time.

The Water Horse

This morning we have been to the cinema to see this smashing family film. It is about a boy called Angus who finds a Water Horse egg which hatches and he brings up in Scotland during the second World War.....the Water Horse being ,of course, a loch Ness type monster!

Its a lovely film with grest scenery and fun effects.I think we all enjoyed it though - Dave and I both stayed awake so that means something I guess!

Now we shall be searching for these eggs when we next go to the beach I expect.....

Hello again!

Well i am now back in the land of the living!

I have been unable to post for the last few days due to a horrid sinus infection which has made me very poorly. However now after a few days on the antibiotics I am feeling much brighter!

Alfie was at the hospital yesterday having his check up with the cardic paeditrician. He had an ECG and an electrocardigram to look at his heart which was very interesting. How do they make machines that show us blood pumping in and out of a living heart?? It is very clever! Alfie was very impressed to see and hear his heart on the TV screen and to be wired up so he looked like a robot! Anyhow things lookfine at the moment and he will continue to be screened every 6 months so a check can be made if any changes start to develop which might mean the hypertrophic cardio- myopathy is starting.

We are all looking forward to half term school holiday - Dave has taken week off from work so hope I will be able to post some more interesting stuff and photos on my blog then!

Saturday

Today the weather has been fabulous.Lovely and sunny and very warm.Alfie has been to a party at Georgia's house.A fantastic old farm cottage right out in the sticks next to the farm. The garden was very rural and the kids had a fab time just playing in the fields with the chickens etc! I want to live there!

Dave and I did not have such a good morning.Yesterday Sainsburys were selling 6 bottle cases of wine for £12 - so when we go back , they are all sold out! So we think about going for lunch at the new Coundry Arms on the Balcombe Road but the women there was very blunt and said we would not have time to eat before 1. am which was when we needed to collect Alfie. They only opened this week and it seems rather sad that they are not up and ready for the weekend rush....

On a better note the daffadils are almost out in bloom in our garden. I love Spring and the new life thet it brings.

Friday, 8 February 2008

A,a achoooooooooooooo!

Yes - I now have the cold....

I have been sneezing so much that driving back from Sainsburys today I had to stop the car as I was worried I might crash during a sneeze!

Friday evening is very welcome and more so the first bottle of wine of the week.

USA elections

After all the anticipation of Super Tuesday last night it was a bit of a let down I thought.

I was up at 5.30am with Alfie so decided to listen to radio 4 where there was no news until 6.00 on the election.I did however listen to Farming Today which was about a fishing college in Whitby which was actually really quite interesting.

When the USA news arived it seemed a bit dull really - apart from McCains republican leap forward, the real battle between Clinton and Obama seemed to be continuing. I am not sure who I want to win but I know whoever gets the big seat has got to do better then Bush. It is all very interesting though....

spices

Here's the photo!

Wednesday

Today I have felt like cooking so have made a twist on sheperds pie -using indian spices to flavour the meat and chillies for heat...hope its good!

Tried to uplaod pic but no joy at the moment so I shall try again later.

Alfie still off from school - hope he will return tomorrow as I am going out for lunch with some girls I worked with at Norms.

Dave is in Lewis today at a meeting.

Tuesday, 5 February 2008

At last.. another photo!

Well I have managed to take and download another photo today.

The cats have been looking after Alfie as he relaxes on the sofa !

I am looking forward to the USA elections tonight and tomorrow- interesting stuff.

Dave is watching the cricket highlights - hey! England won today....

I treated myself to the new Adele CD and it is fab- I love Chasing pavements and Make you feel my love - her voice is really lovely.

Tuesday

Well, so much for posting with photos everyday!

Alfie has been unwell for last few days so not been up to much.He has a cold and sore throat and now a bruised knee from jumping off the sofa!

Off to look for new jobs for Dave now!

Sunday, 3 February 2008

Last Sunday we were riding!

Sunday

Today I have had my grouchy head on! I woke up early due to small boy wanting to build Lego castle and then did not feel much like sleeping again. Its SO cold today!

Alfie and I went out into the garden and started cleaning the greenhouse ready for the spring planting but it was so cold he only managed to wash a few pots before complaining of being too cold and needing to go back indoors! I carried on for a bit but actually got too cold to so I guess he was right!

We went off to the garden centre this afternoon and brought some seeds to start making sowings for the sumer veggies- peas, carrots and beetroot today.

Now we have lit the fire and started cooking the roast - Rib of beef tonite so yum yum!
